GGrandmother Melinda Anna Torbush Street
I am looking for anything I can find on the Torbush family. My story is this:My Mother told me that her Grandmother was Melinda Anna Torbush.Pronounced just the way it was spelled. She married John W. Streetman sometime in the 1870's, I believe. My Grandmother Minnie Lee Streetman Womack was born 13 Feb. 1885.She was not the oldest child.Anyway, the Torbush story;Melinda's mother was said to be a herb doctor or midwife, she was either full or half Cherokee. She married a Torbush man and they had, I believe Mother said 2 sons and Melinda. My Mother seemed to think he was from somewhere in New York.Anyway, after Melinda was born he went back to where he came from for a while. When the boys were 8 to 10 years old he returned for them and left Melinda with her Mother. He took the boys to a school in upper state New York so that they could learn to live and act as civilized people before taking them home to meet his family.
If anyone has ever heard anything about this story please e-mail me a [email protected], It is very important to me.
