anyone researching the line of John Torrance b. 1816-1826 who married Sarah Pelton b. 1822 ? they were living with Sarah Pelton's parents, Alfred Pelton and Abigail "Abbey" in Jerusalem NY on the 1850 census ... with John's surname trascribed as Terrance
in 1860 they were in Cameron NY,
in 1870 York, Sandusky, OH,
in 1885 in Junction City, Davis, KS
I'd *LIKE* to think this is the John who is son of William Henry Torrence and Saloma Dains ... however !
that John has been called John P. with birthdate 4 Jan 1816
(the only source I've seen is an IGI submission by an LDS member)
this John is John W., with presumed birthdate from 1820 to 1827, depending on which census you look at -- however Sarah has been reported with ages suggesting birthdates from 1822 to 1826, while the Pelton genealogy has ber born in 1822
their oldest child is named Lafayette, leading me to believe that John W. does belong to this Torrence family ...
possibly his son Lafayette is named after Marcus Lafayette Torrence (John's younger brother if my theory is correct)
perhaps John W. Torrence, son of Austin W. Torrence (another brother of John ?), is his namesake
comments or sources, anyone ?
