I found very little on Emmett.

Emmett J Scott Torrence (Jan 1921-1992)x Corrine D T Gaskin (1930- ) Statesville, NC

They had two children:
1 Selina Torrence
2 Emmett Louis Torrence

and you must be the daughter of Emmett Louis Torrence.

1 Tiesha Torrence

It appears that Emmett J S Torrence's parents were:

Louis Torrence (1899-1963) x Ollie Rankin (1900-1983) of Iredell County, NC

His parents were:

Reece Torrence x Hattie Gaffney

The Federal Census did not list Reece or his wife as far as I could see.

Similarly, I did not find Louis Torrence and Ollie in the Federal Census.

My best suggestion, since you have access to Ancestry, is to look at the existing family trees for the Black Torrence families in Rowan County, NC and creat a file or two or more on the families listed. I found quite a few listings and you should be able to create files on several families that very likely merge together in the past. Begin with search, then families that are looking for Emmett. Or go to Census, then type in Torrence, Iredell or Rowan County, and check the large number of families that did report.

While I searched the files, I did not take the time to form family groups which may lead to a breakthrough.

The other thing you could do is follow up on Thelma M Rankin, the sister of Louis' wife Ollie. A Rankin descendent may remember Louis and the children (Emmett) and be able to help.

I was able to fill in quite a few gaps in my family search of the emigrant Torrence ancestors from England, so I found the search helpful to me.
