Thanks for your reply. It's been a long time since I worked on this line.
A few questions:
Do you know the maiden name of Susannah, second wife of William? Do you know her death date?
Do you know if the William who died in 1800 NY is the same William? And if so, why was he in NY?
Also, I noticed your marriage date of 1784:
'Susannah married William in 1784 and they lived in Pembrocke in Plymouth County'
This is actually 1787 (Oct 15), correct?
I have long wondered of the certainty that William who md. Hepsibah Batchelor was the same William who md. Susannah Stoddard. I realize that many things 'fit', but as far as I know, nothing 'solid' has been found to completely prove this. I would appreciate your thoughts. When I make a timeline using a MA county map, it seems very odd at the constant criss-cross in locations. There was another William Torrance found in the Hampshire/Worchester area, but I haven't followed his path.
After reading your reply on another post (Lizzie Torrance), you may be interested in a few things in my notes that you may or may not have:
Of Robert and Betsy's nine children -
Robert(Jr)(1819-1872), -my line - first left MA looking for gold w/ his uncle in the west, and ended up in MO where the name changed to Torrence; I have complete info if you don't have it.
Erastus (1827-1854) died in a wreck on the Packet RUSSELL off Cape Cod. The following came from a book which had a history of sea wrecks: "The Packet Russell was wrecked in a violent gale of wind near Wellfleet on Cape Cod; Captain and crew and passengers all perished. The following are the names of the men who perished viz: Capt. William Simmons, Ichabud Rogers, Erastus TORRANCE, Alpheus Richmond, Harvey Raymond & son, Elkanah Barnes, Henry Weston, Edward Griffin'.
(Note: there was another Erastus Torrance, but this was the son of Nathan S. Torrance and Betsy Wade. He was a teamster (1850-1926)
If you have any copies of old documents, I would love to have a copy. Thanks -Kay
