Adam & Hugh Torrence - NC
Posted by: BEN CALLAHAN (ID *****1945) Date: February 14, 2011 at 18:15:58
  of 1443

Can anyone advise me of a connection between ADAM TORRENCE of Rowan County (supposedly died 1780 at Battle of Ramsours Mill, NC) and HUGH TORRENCE. of Tryon/Lincoln Co. NC. Adam owned a tavern near the Catawba River which was a meeting place for Patriots during the war and it was the site of a battle involving Col. Banastre (Bloody Ban) Tarleton and Patriot forces on 1 Feb 1781.
Hugh Torrence (b. 1732 in Ireland, d. 1813, Lincoln Co. NC. He supposedly served as the Sheriff of Iredell Co. (formed from Rowan Co.) in 1789-90.
