Hi Paul,

I was curiously drawn to your story about Gerald Arthur Torrence and asked you for his photo. I then sat down and in less than half an hour whizzed through The Mormon site, Rootsweb, and Ancestry and picked up addresses where he and his parents had lived. I found that he likely had a brother, Neil, who shows up on the 1930 Mission, Kansas census, and found that they packed up and gone to California that same year and have a census entry there.

In 1944, Gerald A Torrence Jr was a technician and lived at 1239-A 7th Ave in San Francisco with his wife Jean C who was a secretery.

Menawhile, his parents Gerald A Torrence and Edna N lived in San Marino CA (LA area) and later in Pasadena, CA. Earlier, Gerald had lived in 1910 in Center, Henry Co, Iowa with his mom, Hattie G. In 1900, his parents were in Deadwood, SD as Will and Hattie Torrence.

Gerald married on December 31, 1914 in San Francisco to Edna Aileen Neil and his parents were given as WW Torrence and Hattie Gascue.

I then found William Wilson Torrence, Dr. (1857-1906) in Xenia, Green Co, OH who died in Denver, Colorado, but who was buried at Hoopeston Cemetery at Hoopeston, IL down near Decatur. Hattie Gascue is 1859-1921 and the two were married in 1881.

William Wilson Torrence's parents were William Torrence (1789-1859)and Margaret Espy who were married in 1858 and lived in Lexington, KY,

William's parents were John Torrence (1759-1840( and Jane McConnell Jolly (1762-1840) who were married in Chester Co, PA in 1785. John & Jane are well known as part of the original Torrence family from Ireland. I am a descendant of this family.

John Torrence's parents were Aaron Torrence, Dr (1722-1796) xnd Susannah Finley (1728-1772) who were married in 1750 in Chester Co, PA. Aaron was from Londonderry, Ireland and Susannah was from Mullaghabrac, in Armagh County, in Ireland. Again, this family is familiar to me.

I also found a Neil Torrence (1924-2010) of Apple Valley in San Bernardino, CA who may be the brother. He would get his name from his mother's last name. I can not confirm that this is really the brother.

So folks, in about half an hour I tracked this young man back through father, grandfather and several generations to becoming a realtive of myself.

Kind of a nice surprise for everyone I think

Tom Torrence Fetters
