Ethel Laurine Tower, 98, of Beaver Creek, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Tuff Memorial Home, Hills.

Born Jan. 13, 1909, in Luverne, she was the daughter of James and Anna Knadle Vopat. She married Gale Tower Jan. 1, 1939, at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, S.D. He died in 1997.

She grew up in Beaver Creek, where her parents opereated the Hotel Eureka. During childhood, she and her family resided at the hotel, where she worked making beds and cleaning guestrooms. After graduating from Beaver Creek High School, she attended college in St. Cloud, where she received her teaching certification. She taught at country schools north and east of Beaver Creek. After marriage, they resided in Beaver Creek. She worked with her sister Harriet for more than 25 years as a cook at Beaver Creek School. She also had her beauty license and gave many perms throughout the years. After retirement, she traveled with her husband to visit family in Brownsville, Texas, and Phoenix, Ariz. She became a resident of Tuff Memorial Home, Kills, in May 2000. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Beaver Creek, and was active in Circle and Presbyterian Women.

Surviving are two children, Mary (Bob Wright) Thomas, Phoenix, and Bob (Sue) Tower, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Vivienne Stoakes, Sioux Falls, and Helen Jorgenson, Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hartquist Funeral Home Engebretson Chapel, Luverne.

The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Beaver Creek. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
