I don’t have information on all of the children of William Towles (b: 15 Jun 1774 in Ninety Six Dist, SC d: 14 Oct 1854 in Dale Co, AL). But note that his son, Toliver Towles was born on 7 January 1800 in Edgefield Co, S.C. and died on 14 June 1873 in Lafayette, Chambers Co, AL to William Towles 1st wife, Betty Ann Roe (died about 1805). Also William Towles (b: 15 June 1774) had a 2nd spouse, Catherine Culbreath. Notice that William Towles (b: 15 June 1774) died in DALE CO, AL.
Many times Towles was misspelled as “Toles” and a number of other ways.
Since your William M. Towles was born about 1814 to 1815 (1860 Dale Co, AL census), could he be the half-brother of Toliver Towles (b: 7 Jan 1800) and the son of William Towles (b: 15 Jun 1774) and Catherine Culbreath? The William Towles, age 76, born S.C. on the 1850 Dale County, Alabama census should be William Towles (b: 15 June 1774 in Ninety Six Dist, SC d: 14 Oct 1854 in Dale Co, AL). Since William N. (probably should be an “M”) Towles, age 34, is living next door to William Towles (b: 1774) then I would project that William M (N) Towles is a son of William Towles (1774) and Catherine Culbreath.
Seems strange that Toliver Towles, son of William M. Towles (b: ca. 1805) would have been born in Illinois. Perhaps this was a census recording error.
I found your Toliver Towles on FindAGrave.com at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Towles&GSiman=1&GScid=98285&GRid=18371253&
His birth and death dates were listed as: b. Feb. 25, 1845 d. Oct. 10, 1895. Sarah or “Sallie” is also listed on FindAGrave.com.
Wish I had more information on your William M. Towles and son Toliver Towels. It certainly appears that William M. Towles (b: 1814 or 1815) was a half-brother of my Toliver Towles (b: 7 January 1800 in Edgefield Co, S.C. d: 14 June 1873 in Lafayette, Chambers Co, AL.).
