I have a Tabitha TOWLES being the daughter of Oliver and Jane Goggans TOWLES. The book "Our Folks" by Marion Summer Eve has a pretty comprehensive genealogy of the SC TOWLES-GOGGANS line. Oliver and Jane, along with their parents and others, left Culpeper, VA in 1766 and settled in Ninety Six District. Oliver served as a Sergeant and then as a Captain in the 3rd Regiment of Horse (Thomson's Rangers)and was killed in Nov 1781 by a band of marauding Tories led by William "Bloody Bill" Cunningham. A description of the family immigration and his death is contained in Chapman's "History of Edgefield Co." and "Annals of Newberry."
I hope this helps. I have a copy of "Our Folks" and would be happy to provide more info for you. Please e-mail me separately.
Regards, Keith
