Without many dates to go by...
Earl Toy and family appear in the 1930 census in Scranton living next door to the widowed William Toy.
William and family appear in the 1900 census again in Scranton. He was born Oct 1865, Barbara in Dec 1871, William in Sept 1890, Walter in Sept 1892 and Earl in Sept 1894.
World War I draft cards for Earl shows he was born Sept 5, 1894 in Scranton and for William Nicholas Toy Jr its shows he was born Sept 28, 1890 in Philadelphia. More on the family can be found in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. They vary as to where they have William Senior born. Most of the time it's Pennsylvania but onetime in New Jersey. His father was born in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey and his mother in New Jersey or Maryland.
Some of these records you can look at for free at labs.familysearch.org and Ancestry.com. For those you cannot see for free I suggest checking with your local libraries to see if they have Ancestry or Heritage Quest.
Here is William Junior's tombstone: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=toy&GSfn=william&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSst=40&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=27521374&http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=toy&GSfn=william&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSst=40&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=27521374&
If you are interested in finding more I suggest getting William and Barbara's death certificates and obituaries. Check with the Genealogical Research Society of Northeast Pennsylvania in Olyphant, PA to see if they can help you find the obits. Contact the PA Div. of Vital Records directly for the death certificates.
