Just to add, the name comes from the plant "teasel" which was used to tease/toze the cloth. I'm not sure if you have this plant in North America but it looks a bit like a big thistle.
Teasel is pronounced with a hard "s" and that is why you get the "z" in Tozer, also because the Tozers come from the Westcountry and our country burr pronounces it "Toazzzer"!
There are still many Tozers in Devon and we are glad to hear you lot in the "colonies" are doing well.
