Dear Joe James was born to David Traill and his wife sometime around 1717 as he was collecting bounty returns on crows and sqirrels by 1739. whether he was then 18 or 21 I am not certain but whatever was considered of age. George turned up these records sometime ago. He also found records describing David in 1749 upwards of 70 years of age . near 50 years of this county" in a court record. George unfortuantely is at the moment flat out working at his paying job so we will have to wait till he has time for more. However if you have new Buxton records they would be most welcome if you would throw them onto the pile.
James does appear to have been more diligent in learning his lessons and was proud of being literate. David junior and Charles as the older children may not hve had the time or preferred like many children on farms to be helping their parents but George did discover records that covered accounts itemising pen and ink so it would seem all three could read and write to some degree.which may have been because there was a local school teacher. This has still to be discovered.
David senior appears an admirable man of great energy who gave his children every opportunity regards Elsie Ritchie
Does that help
