Clint: Last night I was looking for a particular name in "Antebellum Arkansas: Trammell Families" and decided to dog-ear each page that had a Trammell getting killed and/or killing someone. When I reread your message now, I recalled seeing that deputy's death in the book. Took me some time to find it though, as I had dog-earred almost every other page. John D(avid?) Trammell, b. 11/10/1837, Richland Crawfor Co AR, was killed on duty June 1888 as a deputy marshall, in Montgomery Co AR. Married Clara Andrews on Dec 1, 1865, in Hopkins TX. Clara's father was killed by Confederate guerrillas. John had served in the Confederate Army, and after the war became a U. S. Marshall for the Northern District of Arkansas, out of Ft. Smith. John had a small posse approaching a much larger outlaw gang, and was killed in ambush. Buried at Black Springs Cemetery, Montgomery Co AR. Never did find out if the outlaws got their just due. He was the son of Peter Trammell (1811-1848) and Mary Smoot; and the grandson of David Trammell (1760/70-1834) and Elizabeth. Larry Anderson
