The Trammel name - by any spelling - is of French/German in origin, probably from the boundary region between France and Germany. Some Trammels left the area during the persecution of the Huguenots. It is likely that some went to Ireland but the name did't originate there. They later migrated here from Ireland, the first landing here in VA in 1670. At least that is the information that most researchers have put together.
