Palmer,
The information about Angeline Rosetta Travioli and Hampton Wintermute was given to me by Terry Lawson, a descendent of Clarence Wintermute, Angelina and Hampton's son.
Hampton, the son of Rachel Shackelton and Peter Wintermute II, was born April 10, 1823 in Newton, Sussox County, New Jersey.
Angelina was born September 18, 1833 in Sacketts Harbor, Jefferson County, New York.
They were married May 30, 1856 in Marshall, Clark County, Illinois.
This was after Hampton returned from a gold hunting expedition to California. Terry included an excerpt from Hampton's description of that trip in his diary. I can send that to you along with other information about the family if you are interested.
Their children were:
Clarence Gilford Wintermute, b. September 23, 1857 in Clark Co. IL, who married Aura Edith Love in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa,
on August 29, 1886 and died March 22, 1937 in Calumet County, OK.
Ella Louise Wintermute, b. February 1, 1860
Algie Lincoln, b. March 29, 1862
Abbie Celista Wintermute, b. February 8, 1864 in Bedford, IA, m. William H Harvey abt. 1890
Emma Estella Wintermute, b. September 23, 1866 in Bedford, IA, m. Alfred P Hall abt. 1897
Mary Jane Wintermute, b. March 8, 1869
Jesse Hampton Wintermute, b. March 24, 1872 in Bedford, IA, m. Bertha abt. 1897
a son b. abt. 1873
Mabel Grace Wintermute, b. May 24, 1875
Harland Grant Wintermute, b. June 19, 1878
Hampton died November 8, 1914, and Angeline died July 23, 1910, both in Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa.
I also copied the information about Emma Travioli Stasel from the MyFamily site. It was contributed by Jeff Long, who told me that he found the information in the Willard Library in Evansville, IN. The book is titled MEMORIAL RECORD OF LICKING COUNTY OHIO, Chicago 1894. The article, found on pages 506-507, is a biographical sketch about James V Phillips, the husband of Nicholas and Emma Stasel's daughter, Abbie. I will not quote the whole article, but I will send a copy to you if you will e-mail your s-mail address. The paragraphs pertaining to the Stasel family are as follows:
"Having arrived at years of maturity he (James V Phillips) (my quotes) began business on his own account, and as a helpmate on life's journey chose Miss Abbie Stasel, their wedding being celebrated February 24, 1887. The lady is the daughter of Nicholas and Emma (Trivola) Stasel, natives respectively of Germany and Licking County, Ohio. Her mother dying when she was eighteen months old, she was then placed in the family of her father's brother, George Stasel, with whom she remained until attaining years of womanhood. She was twenty-four years of age at the time of her marriage.
"Three children bless this union, named as follows: Emma Geneva, who was born December 4, 1888,: Myrtie May, September 28, 1890; and James Lee, May 11, 1893.
"Mrs. Phillips has one brother and three sisters. The former, Albert A. and an attourney at Newark, married Miss May Woods and they have one child, Sarah. The sisters are, Annie, wife of Hon. Charles Seward, a prominent attourney in Newark, and now Probate Judge of Licking County; Leila, Who married Dr. John Mitchell, a practising physician of Newark; and Clara, who keeps house for her father, a builder of Newark."
I hope that this information helps you as much as it did me to solve the mystery of Emmaline. Jeff is an excelent researcher, always ready to share information, and he always includes his sources. He is descended from Mary Louisa Travioli and George W Smith.
Thank you for your answers to my other questions. I have now seen the probate records in the Clark County Courthouse, and I need to do some more searching there.
I am definitely interested in the picture of your great Aunt Mary Macke. Mary Jane Travioli Macke was my husband's great grandmother. I can receive photos by e-mail, so please send it to [email protected] am also interested in what you have about John Larrabee and his family. I will e-mail Lydia's picture to you.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer my message. Eleanor
