Thanks for the Travis Y-DNA project. Readers should also be aware that you do not have to be a male Travis to benefit from it. I once had a major blockage in a maternal line. I was able to prove a male lineage to a remote cousin that had the maternal name. I offered to pay half of the test for him to take it, since my DNA was of no use, and he did. We now know the correct lineage winding through a maze of different "Smiths" with the same given names dating to 1702 and the Virginia Colony. There is a genealogy god!
Conversely, I also used the Y-DNA test for my paternal side. It was a disaster! I learned that either I am the end product of an adoption circa 1800 or the result of some wild oats cast on the sea of genealogy confusion. Yes, there was adoption, incest, wedlock birth and even the Kings Rights to the first night/knight rapture with a new bride. Y-DNA is a great tool... but only one more tool. I hope I can "prove" my lineage into one of your gene pools and use DNA to solidify my case.
