William Barrett Travis of Alamo fame and his family lived in Monroe County, Ala. (now Conecuh County) at one time. John D. Travis, Mark Travis, James Travis, and Alexander Travis settled south of Evergreen, Ala. in today's Conecuh County a few miles west of the Mobile and Tuckabatchee trading path. James Travis is buried at Herbert cemetery in eastern Conecuh county. William Barrett Travis' law office still stands in Perdue Hill, Ala. on U.S. 84 west of Monroeville, Ala. It was moved 2 miles to Perdue Hill from Claiborne where Travis practiced law.
