Marie,
I have seen several census records where Mary Catherine DeWitt (Treadway) is listed. Some say she was born in NC and some say she was born in (today's) W VA. I would hazard a 'guess' that she was born in that part of VA which became W VA.

I have also researched the Bayless lines in E TN. Are you out of the Daniel Bayless & Joanna Lake line? This Bayless line also married into the Treadway line.
