I am looking for anyone who might be able to help me connect my ancestor, William Treat, to his parents. I have talked to different researchers who have extensively documented Treats in Arkansas. However, my William Treat is still a mystery to them as well. The first documentation on William Treat is from the 1860 federal census in Newton County, Arkansas. William is 10 years old living with his mother, Elizabeth Treat, and his younger sister, Barbary Treat. However, they are all living with a John Davis family. There is no sign of William's father. Elizabeth Treat's birthplace is listed as Illinois. Later census records list Elizabeth Treat's birthplace as Arkansas. They also list William Treat's father's birthplace as possibly Tennessee. I don't know the quality of the source. I have found nothing to connect Elizabeth or her children, William and Barbary Treat, to any Treats in Arkansas. William did marry Sarah Vanderpool in 1873. Barbary Treat married Francis/Marion Gosnell, and Elizabeth Treat was living with them. Does anyone have a Treat male married to an Elizabeth (?) around 1850 and the Treat male then probably died or disappeared in Arkansas between 1850 and 1860? Would appreciate any help.
