I've only just seen your message. My grandfather was Frank Triggs and according to my mother, we are descendants of the Donnellys, of Drogheda, Ireland. Our family history is a bit sketchy in places. Hugh Donnelly, born in Ireland (date of birth unknown - early 1800s) had a son, Charles Donnelly (born 1831). We think they were from a farming community in Drogheda, where the local churh was the Calverley or Calvary RC Church. However, as yet unable to verify this. Family story, passed down verbally through the generations, is that the family left Ireland as a result of the great potato famine, mid-1800s. They settled in Liverpool, UK. This is where Charles Donnelly, then aged 34 and a railway porter, married Mary Wosser, aged 27 (born 1838) on February 20, 1865. We have a copy of their wedding certificate. Mary's father was a joiner, Patrick Wosser. Charles and Mary were married at St Augustine's Catholic Church, Liverpool. Mary Wosser is also believed to be from Drogheda, having moved to Liverpool as a child due to the potato famine. Their address at the time was given as 98 Great Howard Street, Liverpool. The marriage was witnessed by John Wosser and Eliza Nowlan. The wedding certificate copy which we have was taken from the Register of Marriages kept at the church on May 3, 1911, so someone was perhaps trying to trace their family tree back then - possibly a Michael Donnelly - not sure what his link is really, but his name is written on the certificate too. This is where it gets a bit sketchy.
My mum's grandma (Frank Triggs's mother) was an Anne Donnelly. We think she was Charles and Mary's daughter and that she had a sister, also Mary. (Again anecdotal - no birth certificates in our possession).
Anne Donnelly married a Mr Triggs (I'm not sure of first name) who had moved to the Liverpool area from Bristol looking for work. They had a number of children, including Frank Triggs - my grandad - born 1903. He had other brothers - I can find out all their names if you are interested?
