Spurlock/Mills/Miles Connection...
Hello All,
Anyways..I've learned that my 3xGrandmother married a Wade Mills. He was born Wade Miles of the Pamunkey Indians. Wade Miles was married previously we think to Mary Trimmer/Trimune who was white ??.
Two family lores..
..the first states that he was kicked off the Reservation for marrying her because the Pamunkey's didn't want any interracial marriages on the reservation(?)
..the second states...there was a big falling out between he and his brother.... over the marriage maybe?? and that's when he left the reservation??
He went to live with some people whose last name was Mills and soon took the name as his own. I'm not sure who these people the Mills were or what the connection was.
He then married my 3xgrandmother in 7/22/1876 and they had children.
Confusing part is Wade is listed as Wade Mills and Wade Miles under different Registries. However, his mother name is always listed the same Francis Miles.

Go figure??..
Maybe this is why my grandmother and her sisters were told the were always welcomed on the Reservation. My understanding is this was a real pow wow between Wade and the rest of the Pamunkey indians.. I'm also still looking for Mary Byrd my 4xgrandmother. I have her listed on only have her on the marriage certificate
