Hello Benjamin,
Most "TRIMMERS" in the UK lived in Hampshire in the 16th 17th and 18th centuries. Ninety-five percent were residents there until social movement was allowed by the Government. Travel was restricted by the "poor laws" which meant people were tied to their "parish". To move you had to obtain a "settlement certificate" which you took to your destination absolving that parish from any social welfare should you become destitute. Our "tree" which starts in the early 1600's in Wymering near Portsmouth, is set up on GenesReunited, where you will get a lot of "hot matches". To get some idea about the area go to the Hampshire Record Office web-site on http://calm.hants.gov.uk/DServehttp://calm.hants.gov.uk/DServe and input "trimmer". You should get a list of 400 entries involving the trimmers!
Regards John
