Sorry folks, but this is serious and important......

I’m sorry all of you have been drawn into this situation with Bryson; however, it isn’t just a case of him making up new pen names, posting misinformation – it goes way, way beyond that – for me. And I want to show you the extent so you call can be aware – I may not be the only person this is happening to. I was shocked to learn the extent that he has gone on the forums. I’m sorry this is lengthy, but it is important.

People contact me really quite often with Trogdon questions and I help them – more than happy to give anyone any information I have and my source information as well. That is what all of us do. However, I have found that some of the people who are contacting me are not who they claim to me.

THE MOST RECENT EVENT: I was contacted by a gentleman from GERMANY, going to turn 73 that Thursday he said, (he even sent me PHOTO of himself) wanting information regarding a Trogdon. We chit chatted, I was giving him info, exchanging emails, etc. As we progressed and my time involved accumulated, I felt something was wrong. At that moment, I knew who it was. Forget all the time wasted, that isn’t what is important. The PHOTO.

I forwarded his emails to a brilliant contributor to the forums and imagine my shock that based on the source information that accompanied that original email, the person found the original web site that photo had come from. I am not going to identify this gentleman – he has already had his identity stolen without his knowledge. I am going to attach the URL for the web site the photo came from, which has many photos. But Bryson Hatfield took this gentleman’s photo, posed as this gentleman, made up an email address with this man’s name, and assumed his identity in emails to me (keep in mind this isn’t the first time he has done this-but it is the first time he sent a photo). Fortunately, there is a phone number – I called this gentleman last night. I needed to prove to myself that he was not living in Germany, he had never contacted me, he was not a Trogdon descendent and I can tell you, he and his wife are VERY upset.

So, I want you to understand why this is a serious, serious issue for me, aside from the obvious issues – and Bryson does live in the same town I do, that is why I am able to check out his stories, but this impersonating folks has been an issue with me personally for over a year now. What is so ridiculous, he never had to pose – I met him in the library and gave him suggestions, etc., thought he was a nice kid and was impressed he appeared to have worked very hard on his lineage. He never had to pose as anyone to get information from me. I will give it to anyone who asks. So I don’t understand the whole situation.

But forget about my time and my inconvenience and my not being able to trust anyone that contacts me (how sad is that, we are just trying to do genealogy, a hobby here for crying out loud), but when you steal a man’s identity, contact people as that person – this is serious. Very serious.

Thank you for spending your time reading this – I just need everyone to understand that this isn’t just a pick on Bryson issue – this is real for me, this is every day for me – these behaviors are concerning, progressing and to me are manifestations of a HUGE problem. And I honest to goodness do not know how to get him to stop – other than to make it a law enforcement issue. I have ignored him for a long time, but now, after him telling everyone on the Covington board he has some interesting information about a "certain Covington family" and on Rootsweb, asking for information on my grandfather, my direct line, just to let me know he is still out there – like I could forget – He contacts me constantly to “forgive him.” Last time was 8/17. But now I’m mad, really, really mad.

I just wanted all of you to understand where I am coming from on this. I just need to get this off my chest and let you all know the lengths this has really gone. Thank you again for your time.
