Richard, this is an old posting but maybe you are still checking. My Great Grandmother was jane Trougheire born 1832-41 depending on which census you use. In early cemsus returns she said she was born in the isle of man, later in life she said Whitehaven. I tend to believe Whitehaven on the basis that she had discovered new information as she grew older.
Her father was Christopher Trougheire, a shoemaker. Jane turns up in Penwortham, Lancs marrying mt great grandfather William Bennett. She might be part of the Trougheire family which was in Ulverston briefly, that's not too far away.
Anyway, I would like to hear from you.
Cheers
John
