My cousin Peter has researched the Trowell family & I have a copy of his research. It would appear that your great grandmother was the sister of my great grandfather.
There were 9 children - he was the 6th and she was the 9th.
My cousin's notes record that Elizabeth Trowell was born in Cranbrook in September 1858 and was christened in Kilndown - Goudhurst on the 5th September 1858.
Her father, who was the 2nd of 8 children, was George Trowell, born in Ticehurst on 2nd February 1814. Information on him is as follows:
Agricultural labourer, died in Goudhurst in 1900. Married Mary Osborne Gutsell on 29th July 1834 in Goudhurst - she was born in 1814 in Ticehurst and died in 1900.
Note - Witnesses to the marriage were Hannah Osborne and George Stephens.
George was recorded in 1841 as living at Comwell, in 1861 at Flimwell and again in 1861 at London Road, Goudhurst. He was last recorded in 1881 as living in Flimwell Road, Goudhurst with his wife Mary (At this time they had one lodger, an Edward Funnell who was a 57 year old widower from Battle whose profession was Agricultural Laborer.
George's father was John Troel, a traveller, labourer, ostler who died in Cranbrook in 1848. He was living with/ married to Frances Turner who was born in 1794 in Ticehurst and died in 1871 in Goudhurst.
Hope this is of some use to you.
Regards
Linda Rowe (nee Trowell)
