Robert G True, b. 1908 Ogden, Weber, UT. Father: Harry E. True, b. 1880 place unknown but likely IN; Mother Marie [--?--], b. 1881 Indiana; sister Virginia b. 1912, Ogden, UT. In the 1910 US Census the family was living on Lincoln Ave, Ogden. In the 1920 US Census mother Marie was widowed, the family living on Madison Ave in Ogden. Also in the household is Sarah Walker, sister or aunt to Harry E., b. 1863 IN.
Robert attended the University of Idaho at Pocatello for two years, 1928-29. In the 1930 US Census Robert is in Queens, New York, where he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Robert did not marry.
Staff Sgt. True was with the 535th Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group out of Ridgewell, England. His plane was the B17F Flying Fortress called Blowin' Bessie which went down over Holland on 5 Nov 1943. The entire crew was killed. His last known status was Missing. Parts of the Blowin' Bessie were found in 1969. Robert received the Purple Heart, Air Medal, and other awards. His name is inscribed on the Court of Honor monument wall at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten.
I am wanting to return Robert's essays, poetry, and other writings to his family. Since Robert was unmarried I am most anxious to find news of his sister Virginia. I lost track of her after 1920. Likely she married and changed her surname. Does anyone know this family?
