TRUELOVE/LE EYRE/LE HEYR/EYRE/HEYR/AYER

Supposedly, a Humphrey TRUELOVE fought with King Richard the Lionheart in the Crusades (1190), and lost a leg. During a battle, Richard I became trapped in his helmet, suffocating; Humphrey freed the King, who declared that he would be called "LE EYRE" from then on, for saving the king's life by "giving him air to breathe". This Humphrey would have been Humphrey-1221's father, but I can't locate anything on this person or his ancestors... [this story has also been told with William the Conqueror, instead of King Richard I, but that would have been 1066]

I need help! I am trying to find out the details on this particular person and his descendents. I'm stuck at Humphrey LE HEYR, b. 1221 Bromham, Wiltshire, ENG. Married Galicia (Gillicia/Galacia, etc.) UNKNOWN in 1249. Son Galfridus b. 1250, his son Galfridus b. 1285, his son John (now spelled LE EYRE) b. 1325...trying to connect to Humphrey-1190 and back.

I have been to about 50 different sites, all related to the LE EYRE/LE HEYR name and the spelling variations, and no one seems to have any ancestors prior to 1221.

Note: There are a couple of records showing Humphrey-1221 as having been born in 1170, but that cannot be correct, based on the date of marriage (1249)

Please help! It's so frustrating!
