Letter of A S (Abraham) Tubb to his uncle James Tubb, Jr

At home December 10th 1852

Dear Uncle,
I can inform you that I stood the trip very well and landed at home in 8 days after I left your hous and found all of our connections well though thar has bin a grate deal of sickness amongst the citizens here and a grate many deaths the diseases has generally bin flux and fever connected I hope these may find you and family well Der uncle after my accomplements I will rite you bad nuse from uncle N Tubb family. 12 of them is dead we reseivd a letter from brother Jim yesterday they all died in Lousania 60 miles below Vicksburg. I will now give you a list of the naims as this letter stated them. uncle Nich Aunt Rhody Adline george Arantha and jims oldest son William Liva Huston that is all the white famlys of the blacks Jerry Tanner old biddy suse and young biddy they all died with the colary uncle nich left green and his family in this country to pay off some debts that he left behind The requested on his deat bed that uncle george Gillespie and Col Nabers should wind us his business in this and also requested Jim to go on to Texas This letter was maild on the instruction and he expected to start on to Texas in a day or two he ses that he will come in the next spring and then he can tell us all his trubble and triles on the way uncle I am much confused and cant rite as I wish though I shall rite again shortly give my respects to Adelia Jim and Mary and also to Thom Mat and famlys so nothing more but remains your afectionet Nephew untill Death

The A S Tubb that wrote this letter was Abraham S Tubb s/o Abraham and Mary Lancaster Tubb. The Jim mentioned in the letter was his brother, who married Adeline Tubb d/o Nicholas and Rhoda Tubb. The original letter was preserved by Mrs Livie Tubb Simpson.
