Samuel Tucker b. 1800-1801 Synopsis

Okay I am writing out my Tucker brick wall that I think is crumbling, but there are a few questionable items…

My 4th great grandfather was Samuel Tucker. He was born around 1800-1801 in Tennessee (based on census records). I have never been able to find his parents.

I recently found a researcher that is also working on this same family. He is a descendent of Samuel’s first daughter, Susan. Susan’s granddaughter wrote family memoirs on what she knew or heard.

According to her memoirs, Samuel was orphaned at a young age and was raised by his aunt and uncle. His father was killed in a hunting accident and his mother hung herself.

Okay so now with more research I have found a Samuel Tucker who was raised by an aunt and uncle. His parents were John Tucker and Jenny Herrod. John was killed in 1801-1802 and Jenny remarried and moved to Illinois. She remarried Joseph Engelman.

Now the will of John Tucker doesn’t mention Samuel… HOWEVER there is an additional court record that states there are two children, Samuel and John (John died as an infant), which are not mentioned in the will. John made his will before these two boys were born and he didn’t update his will after their birth. Therefore they were not listed.

Also listed on the additional record mentioned above, there were two other children of John’s that were no longer living, namely Sarah and Margaret. So another researcher and I are also corresponding… He is descended from Sarah, supposedly the daughter of John and Jenny. Now if she is deceased when the addition court record was written, how would she had been around to have a family if she was deceased?

This is the additional court record (maybe it will help understand some things): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TUCKERS/message/6314 if you are interested in reading it…

So right now, I am trying to find a way to see if the above mentioned Samuels are one and the same. If anyone has any input on this family or ideas on how to proceed with this please let me know….

This is my thinking right now:
1.       Get the full will of John Tucker.
2.       Get the full court record on the additional children being born
3.       I think seeing the date of the additional court record will help put things in perspective with Sarah being deceased.
4.       Start searching for these other children of John and Jenny and see what happened to all of them.

From what I understand all the children of John and Jenny moved to the Illinois Territory except for one daughter, Nancy, who married a gentleman by the last name of Norris who stayed in TN and later moved to Arkansas.

My Samuel was first found in Greene County, Illinois in the 1830 census. This is just another clue to John and Jenny’s son, Samuel, and my Samuel, are the same person.

So any suggestions, help, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Juls
