Ryan Leader Ryan, Jefferson County, Oklahoma Friday, August 25, 1939 Death of a Texas Ranger JAMES E. TUCKER of Sunset, Texas, uncle of JIM STEWART of Ryan, died in a Bowie hospital last Friday afternoon, August 18. Mr. TUCKER was 90 years old. Funeral services were conducted at Sunset, and burial took place there Sunday afternoon. Tucker came to Texas in 1870 from Missouri, his birthplace, and joined the rangers. As a ranger, he engaged in many pursuits of criminals and marauding Indians. Later he resigned from the ranger force and joined the LOVING Ranch outfit as a cowpuncher. The man who had taken in place on the ranger force was killed by a band of Indians two weeks later. A resident of Sunset 26 years, Tucker managed his farming interests of approximately 3000 acres until a few years ago. He then retired to a small farm near Sunset which he managed until his final illness. Widely known among farmers and ranchmen of Bowie and Sunset area, Tucker, despite his advanced age, was active in the interests of his community and frequently attended farm and ranch meetings and auctions. Survivors include Mrs. O. W. HARVEY of Wichita Falls, Mrs. CLYDE WILSON of Sunset, a son LEE TUCKER of Bowie, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
