Brian,
Yes, my John TULLY did have a son William, however, his name is William Patrick TULLY, b Mar 17, 1876, d December 23, 1915, Chicago. I believe his wife's name was Mary BOLFE.
I am also aware of another William TULLY, b 1850, d 1896, also in Chicago. I think he is either cousin or brother to my John TULLY. His wife was Sarah SWANTON, b 1853, d 1941. Maybe that is who you are thinking of. They had a son, John TULLY.
Just for reference, my John TULLY m Catherine MOLLOY. Besides William Patrick TULLY, John and Catherine also had the following children:
Margaret Anna TULLY b Nov 1, 1871, d Aug 26, 1877
Mary Monica TULLY b Oct 30, 1878, d Feb 29, 1952, m Austin McGONAGLE of Perry County, OH.
Lily Angela TULLY b Dec 5, 1881, d Aug 28, 1889
Agnes Antoinette TULLY, b June 12, 1888, d Mar 14, 1985, married William A. STEVENS of Fort Wayne, IL, but settled in Chicago.
The other William, m Sarah SWANTON, had the following children:
John TULLY b abt 1875
Mary (?) TULLY b 1877
Katie (or Kittie) TULLY b May 25, 1880
Margaret (or Rita?) TULLY b 1882 m DEMPSEY
Roy TULLY b 1885
Earl TULLY b 1887
Edna Ann TULLY b 1890, m Michael McCAUGHEY
Esther TULLY b 1893
Don't think either of these families were in NY, but who knows. All I do know about them is that these TULLYs came from Ireland by way of Canada. I guess it is possible that they could have stopped in NY, but I don't know for sure.
If either of these families have names familiar to you, let me know! --Jacqi
