Hi Jean,
I have been to the village of Tunstall in Lancashire where they all came from, and we managed to get some shots of Thurland Castle. Unfortunately the church was locked so we couldn't get in. I did know that the castle has been made into apartments, and of course it's not the original castle any more, been added to and destroyed over the years.
I'm not familiar with John and Irene Tunstall I'm afraid or Thomas Tunstall born 1822 - where was he born? My Tunstalls (since the 1500s) come from Essex (a county) in the UK and I have never been able to link them back to the earlier ones. The family spread out from Lancashire (also a county)into the counties of Durham and Yorkshire. One of my Essex Tunstalls (Essex is in the south of England)was born in Durham (in the north of England) in the 1500s but I cannot find his parents, so have not been able to get back any further. Like you, I think that all the Tunstalls are connected somewhere along the line. I would appreciate any information that you have to see if it fits in with mine anywhere.
