Hello!
Afraid I can't help you a bit; I just couldn't resist saying hello to another Turtle researcher. We're so rare. Our Turtles are from Hatfield, Herts, and then London (mostly Mile End, Stepney, Whitechapel, and eventually Bedfordshire (Haynes and Amthill) and finally Essex.I only have them back to about 1820, so don't know where they started.
Earliest known is William, a carrier, and his wife, Mary.Their children - Timothy, John, Peter, William and Mary Ann are known - all born in Hatfield between 1819 and 1835 (probably more). Most ended up in London, in the cheese business.
Let me know if you find any of yours moving in this direction. All the ones I've found so far seem to be connected.Threre's also a branch on the Isle of Wight, but I don't know what that connection is (yet!)
Good luck!
Eileen
