I have a Jonathan Twitchell, married Ann Flanders-The parents of Joseph F. Twitchell-born Oct. 7, 1838 at Old Town, Maine.(1) wife unknown, children are: 1. J. Fred Twitchell or Fred Twitchell-born Oct. 8, 1863-died 1938 at Hibbing, MN. 2. Jennie Twitchell, married George Lane.
Joseph F. Twitchell, in 1861 recruited Co. A., 8th Maine Regiment, and was elected Captain and later commissioned Lieutenant-Colonel and for some months commanded the regiment. At length he resigned, and recruited a company to the rank of Major. He was reported as a brave and accomplished officer. During the War-he had his horse shot right out from under him.
After the War he resided at Medway, Maine, after the Civil War he serving as selectman, school committee, and trial justice. He was prominent in political and Masonic circles, and was a surveyor for leading dealers in land and lumber. (PART 2 to follow)
