Could this be your James? Cause of death Appoplexy. Doctor who signed DC said date of death unknown and something about ".....on the ground." Seems to fit your description of his death.

At least two more sons from first marriage, Scrap and Sampson, also buried in Olney.

It's easier to get someone to look for an obit if you have full date of death. Have you tried public library? If they don't have old local newspapers, they should know where you can find them.

I checked the Young Co, TX GenWeb site, but not all graves have been covered for the Olney (Pioneer) Cemetery. One man seems to do a lot regarding cemeteries, Dorman Holub, maybe he could tell you how to obtain an obit and anything in the newspapers regarding death of James.
