I'm looking for help getting a copy of an ca. 1838 suit filed apparently by the Maxwell and Chambers families pertaining to a donation John Campbell of Rowan County, NC made to the Rowan College. Apparently the Maxwell and Chambers families were unhappy with what John Campbell left the college and they attempted to contest the will. It was resolved in their favor. The reference I've seen says the report of this suit can be found in the North Carolina Report on file in the City of Austin, Texas.

At this point I don't know why the Chambers and Maxwell families contested a Campbell will, other than the families frequently intermarried, or why the suit was filed in Texas when John Campbell lived in NC. There were known members of the Campbell family living in Texas at the time.

Any suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated.
