James and Miranda Smith Bastrop Co. TX 1854

While researching my Laurence family in Marshall County, Mississippi, I found a record for my great great great grandfather's brother, Bassett Lawrence. He was given power of attorney to conduct some business in Mississippi for James and Miranda Smith of Bastrop County, Texas.

I am posting this info here in case it may help someone researching the Smith's of Bastrop, Texas. I have done some research on another Smith line, and it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Maybe this info will be someone's "needle".

James Smith and his wife Miranda of Bastrop County, Texas, appointed Bassett Lawrence of Marshall County, Mississippi (He lived in Mt. Pleasant) as power of attorney to sell property from the estate of Sarah P. Stewart, mother of Miranda. Miranda had one-third interest in this, which indicates other heirs not named.

Dated April 22, 1854. Land Deed Record Book U, page 142, Marshall County, MS.

Thank you,
Cindy Holdridge Smith
