According to my records Dr. Canfield entered the 35th Mississippi Infantry as a private and left as its surgeon. My guess is that the war served as his medical education as it did for many others. It appears that his wife filed for the pension. Could I ask for a copy of the faded photograph? I have photos of about 60 CW vets buried in the county.
