In the December 1, 1911, Burleson County Ledger-News Chronicle is: James Calvin Hale died at his home on Tuesday morning and was buried in Masonic Cemetery with Masonic honors. He was born at Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri, November 4, 1836, and there was raised and spent early life. In 1853, he moved to Texas where he met and won his life's companion, Miss Eliza Smith, they being married in 1845. Soon after they moved to Gay Hill in Waashington County. When the Cival War broke out, Mr Hale joined the volunteers and served as soldier for a while, then joined the cavalry in which he served till close of war. After the hostilities ended, he and his family moved to Deanville and farmed until about 1886, when they moved to Caldwell.
Early in life, he joined the Baptist Church. Since 1886 he has been manager of Hale's platform and is known to all farmers in the county. He leaves a wife and grown children; Mrs. M.E. Capps of San Bernadio, California; Mrs. Cyrus Hope of Ft. Stocton, Texas; J.C. Hale of Houston and 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
