I think you may have gotten your Thomas confused with someone else -- maybe his father? This looks to be your family in the 1930 census:

Jo Edna M., daughter, 1 yr 7 months, b Tx
next door:

George Mclroy, head, 24, married, age 22 at first marriage, reads, writes, he and parents b Tx, farmer
Katherine, wife, 21, married, age 19 at first marriage, reads, writes, b Tx,father b Tx, mother b Mississippi
James C, son, 2 months, b Tx
Also, the Texas Birth Index (my version starts at 1932, lists one other child for this couple:
Tommie Gene McElroy, b 23 Feb 1935 in Lampasas County, TX, son of Beula Edna Colley and Thomas T McElroy.
