I wonder that mother's maiden of Wells is shown on both certificates???? Take a look there is more information on the certificates, informants, buriel etc.
Now, some of the children you listed are in this 1880 family, but head of household is listed as "John H."

Now, could this be your Henry? Notice Sarah who is probably the mother of these young adult Hicks boys, was born in NC.

There are other young adult male Hicks on this same page and look like the same family. Since these young adults show land and/or personal values, I would take a guess their father died and left things to them. You might search land and probate records in Grayson Co, TX.
