I have COOK/CARTER Grandparents, who's kids were mostly born in Cass Co., North of Hughes Springs, in two small communities, one of which was Cornett, named in honor of the GT Cornett family, from GA. Earlier known as Troup, for Troup, GA, where many of the earlier settlers were from. Hamil's Chapel?, I didn't see anything on that, in the TX Handbook Online...maybe the preacher's name? My grandmother, M.A. Cook was a Carter. Her mother, mnu, was briefly married to a Mr. Story in the 1920's as a widow with children. The Story's have kin buried in Cass Co., but I can't find the Carter burials. Some of the Cook kids were born in Dalton, another small community, nearby. Both are a few miles from Marietta, east of Naples. My grandparents were buried in the Hughes Springs, City Cemetary. Mr Story had at least 3 other women who had been in his life, or his dad's life, who was listed in the hh, 1900. Settles, Herrin and Hampton. In 1931, Mr Story died, but Lydia Carter-Story wasn't the widow. I can't find where my Great-grandmother is buried, nor her husband, per 1900 Census, Hunt Co., TX...Rand Carter. He had two boys, Wofford and John?Tom Carter. They were half sibs to my grandmother and her siblings, Joe, Myrtle and Mazie Carter. Myrtle m:Sparks, Mazie m:Wilcox, 1930's, Cass Co.
My Cooks were in Hopkins Co., he m:McWilliams, who died in birth with their 2nd child. Hopkins Co.,Tx. Widowed, he married my grandmother, born:1902 Fannin Co., in Quanah, Hardeman, Tx...(why where they out there?)
Their oldest dtr, b:Marietta Cass Co./1917 d:1917 buried Woodlawn Cemetary, Harrison Co.,Tx. There never was a large population in these towns and in the 1930's when some of the younger kids were born, there were only apx 50 pop. so surely there are those who knew some of these names; but, I can't locate Rand Carter's or Lydia nmu's families. It's said they were "from Paducah, KY"...but, maybe not. Maybe Paducah TX, from KY..? Some of the older Cooks had been out around Lubbock, I believe. Am posting, with hopes that someone will search the forum for some of these.
Let me know if anything looks familiar, please..Thanks!
