Your Gilfillans first appear on Chambers County census in 1910. J. Gilfillan (age 47), born in England; wife Alice (35) born in Mississippi, as were her parents. Indicates she had had 9 children of whom 7 were living in 1910. Children, by age, in the following order, first 3 born in Mississippi, last 4 in Texas: Jess, 21; Dora, 18; William, 15; Charley, 13; George, 10; Archie, 4; and Loid, 10 months (all spellings from census file).
In 1925, J. J. Gilfillan bought from A. Whitehead & wife Annie, a 40-acre tract of land "on the banks of Double Bayou." Chambers Co. Deed Records, Vol. 20/Page 198.
According to affidavits in 1936 by Allie Gilfillian, Lloyd G. Gilfillian & Charles M. Gilfillian (Deed Records Vol. 50/Pages 377-78) they had been leasing 398 acres of land in 3 tracts from Marie M. Beck of Alahambra, California, for the past nine years.

Yet another affidavit by Tessie L. Gilfillian, widow of Jessie James Gilfillian, in 1945, in Deed Records Vol. 102/Page 235, relates that she & Jessie were married at Anahuac on 25 April 1924 & had lived at Beaumont since 1926. Jessie died 11 April 1943, in a Beaumont hospital. They had 7 children, all spelled "Gilfillian" in this record, as follows:
Feriece Earlene, born 9 June 1925; married Jack Brock of Beaumont;
Jessie James, Jr., b. 13 Sept. 1927; unmarried in 1945;
Hollis Arlond, b. 14 Nov. 1929;
Pansy Bacy, b. 20 March 1932;
Jass Derrell, b. 28 July 1934;
Onis Bevil, b. 16 Aug. 1937; and
Carolyn Sue, b. 22 Sept. 1943.
