I ran across this in a letter from my great-grandfather, Melvin Reedy. He was writing about the old Riverland School. The teacher's name was Mr. Duke, he was "a wildcat with dogwood switch." Students names: Bell, Norah, Mattie, Dan, Dave Gipson, Lou Clary, Julius Philip, Keen, Belvia, Mattie, Melvin Reedy, Florence and Sallie Land, Beulah and Odis Jones, Bertha and Edward Grooms, Lou and Eva, Bob, Charles Stratton, Lou and Ed Blanchard, Kate and Tib, Christian, Mattie and Bob Featherston, Tom Taylor, Buck Dawson would have some big fights, Mattie and Clark Thompson. This was probably in the 1880's.
