It is Brownwood (no "s"), in nearby Brown Co., just east of Coleman Co. Brownwood is 30 miles from Coleman, a pretty long trip in 1890. Probably he was there on business of some kind. Comanche Co. is the next county east of Brown.
It's wonderful that you have the letter, though. Communications that old rarely survive. Let me know if I can help you further. I go to Coleman about 3 times a year and pass through Comanche and Brownwood.
