Not sure if you are looking for the Fitzhugh's or the unit themselves-

Per Collin Co 0 pg 178/179-
Fitzhugh Family-
.. In 1857 a brother William came to join them and he and George started a grist mill on East Fork of the Trinity iver and called it Fitzhugh MIlls.
In 1846 William Fitzhugh organized a ranger company in Collin Co and engaged in campaigns along the Red River against the Indians. The following year he organized another company of Rangers.
In 1861 William was commissioned by Jefferson Davis to raise a regiment in Collin Co for the Confederacy. He held meetings at his house under the big pecan tree and recruited many men from the county. He moved his headquarters later to McKinney and served the Confederacy as a Colonel in the 16th TX Cav.
Capt William had a daughter Sarah ELizabeth who married Henry C. Herndon at MElissa in 1871. Indians were invited to a Collin COunty wedding. A full account of the wedding is in microfilm from the McKinney Democrat of Aug 25, 1934 at the McKinney Llibrary. William died at home near Melissa in 1883.

{this is from the book - exactly as printed}

For the Unit before the Civil War I assume your best bet would be the historical society of Collin Co - you should be able to locate that information of the USGEnWeb for TX and then Collin Co.

Good Luck,
