This is a longshot I'm sure because there probably a ton of Rosses who migrated from Alabama to that area of Texas prior to 1900 but here goes.
I have a little data about a James Ross who was married to a Margaret "Peggy" Youst in Rowan County,NC in 1812 and a Sarah Burns in 1825 in Lauderdale Co,AL. They migrated to Comanche County,TX where he died in 1868. Maybe your "Robert" is somehow related to these.
