According to Land Records, my gt grandfather and two of his sons owned 3000 acres along the Concho River about 1910-15. Half of this land was in Concho Co possibly near Lowake.
My gt grandfather was Pleasant Lafayette Montgomery. His sons were H.A. and D.O. Montgomery. They came to Concho County from Talpa, Coleman Co where P.L. and D.O. had a livery stable and H.A. ran a hotel/boardinghouse about 1905 to 1910.
These Montgomerys were real gypsies. Apparently they lost the land at some point due to pooor speculation by H.A. The family then moved near Miles in Runnels Co where D.O. ran a dairy for many years. P.L. farmed some, and H.A. moved on to greener pastures.
Did anyone make contact with these folks during their stay in Concho? Any birth, death, marriage records for these guys or P.L.'s stepson Loyd G. Strawn?
