I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. I am researching the death of Texas Ranger Robert E. DOUGHTY. His mother was ELIZABETH and his step father was Frank C. GRAVIS. He was killed by bandits in Duval County and his body was taken to San Diego and a service was held in the Catholic Church. He was buried somewhere near San Diego. The 1870 & 1880 census for DOUGHTY report his approximate year of birth as 1860 and he was about 34 at the time of death. Historians and Texas Ranger records report his name as Robert E. DOATY, but that conflicts with the census and contemporary newspaper accounts. I need to confirm the spelling of his last name either by locating his tombstone (which would probably be with Frank & Elizabeth GRAVIS). I would appreciate any assistance checking the records of the Catholic Church.
