I know this is an older post, but the TX Dth Idx 1890-1976 came online fairly recently. You can view digitized copies of original death records.
Betty Elizabeth Linton, b 11 Apr 1870 AR; d 19 Feb 1936, Wingate, Taylor Co, TX; [name of cemetery not real clear, you might recognize the name]; father Lou Holcomb; spouse J.A. Linton; informant A. (?). Linton.
Not too sure about this record:
John R. Linton, b about 1872; d 9 May 1941, Glenrose, Somervell Co, TX; father Calvin Linton, b AL; mother Sofa Hendricks, b AL; informant Mrs. Ethel Jermstad.

You mentioned daughter born 1882 in Grayson Co, TX. Here is a John A. with brothers William and James. If this is your John, then looks like above death record is not the same man.
